SMAT ensures that the integrated water service is supplied in the full and constant compliance with the quality requirements of European, National and Regional laws, with the objective of constantly improving the quality of drinking water and of the sanitised water reintroduced into the environment.
The increased catchment area has led to an increase in the number of tests both on drinking water and waste water.
The continuous increase in the testing activity with respect to both the tested water volumes and the size of the served population, confirms the great care and considerable commitment that SMAT devotes to supervising and protecting water resources and the environment in general.
SMAT laboratories are accredited by the Italian National Laboratory Accreditation System (Accredia), the national body responsible for granting and revoking test laboratory authorisations nationwide.
Specifically, SINAL certifies and oversees the technical and organisational requirements of test laboratories to ensure compliance with metrological references, reliability and repeatability of employed procedures, use of appropriate instruments, skills, competence, unbiased opinions of both the laboratory personnel and the technical opinions expressed by the laboratory, according to UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
SMAT laboratories perform daily inspections on water quality at production centres and along the water supply system network.
Over 630,000 tests are performed every year, 500,000 of which on drinking water and 130,000 of which on waste water. Equipped with sophisticated instruments, SMAT laboratories have a certified UNI EN ISO 9001system and are capable of performing over 300 chemical and highly specialised microbiological tests. Highly qualified personnel is capable of conducting studies aimed at optimising systems and reducing the environmental impact deriving from water treatments.
SMAT in the research sector provides consulting services for the engineering, installation and management of automatic continuous water quality monitoring systems.
